Residency Programs

A series of workshops in which teaching artists, with the ongoing support and participation of classroom teachers, actively engage students in creative experiences. These programs are skills-based, integrate into the curriculum, address the California State Standards for the Arts and meet the needs of participating students.

Things to consider when scheduling a residency:

  • A YASD residency is designed to fit your needs, your budget and your schedule.
  • Residencies vary in length and can span days, weeks, months or an entire school year.
  • Maximum number of students per class is 30
  • One credentialed teacher must be present and in the room with the Teaching Artist.
  • All residencies require at least one planning session with the Teaching Artist and Classroom Teachers, planning meetings are $32 per hour.
  • Residency fees are $45 per hour for a minimum of three hours in a row.
  • Residencies shorter than three hours will be billed at $88 for one hour and $135 for two hours.

TEACHER PROFESSIONAL GROWTH RESIDENCY

In the STAR (Stimulating Teaching through Arts Residencies) program, YASD's Teaching Artists present model lessons for teachers, enabling classroom teachers to enhance both their skills and student learning in the arts and other subjects.

In-service Arts Workshops: YASD artists conduct in-service workshops in a particular art form for teacher professional development. Teachers may find new techniques and entirely new ways to teach a subject.
In-services can be tailored to a school's specific needs. These workshops are a great way to help teachers become knowledgeable and comfortable enough to infuse singing, dance, theatre and visual art into every-day classroom programs.

Thanks to MetLife and Young Audiences National for awarding Young Audiences of San Diego a second year grant to implement MetLife - Dance for Life dance program. Beyond learning the knowledge of dance skills, the participants gain discipline, the physical benefits of movement, and the social benefits of dancing with their peers. This year's YASD MetLife school partners include: Central Elementary, Boone Elementary, and Mount Vernon Elementary.
